Chickweed – Stellaria Media

The bane of many gardeners lives…but why not eat your weeds?

The bane of many gardeners lives…but why not eat your weeds? The tender leaves of this invasive plant are at their best just now and are delicious in soups and stews. Chickweed grows all over the place and is also happy in tunnels and greenhouses. Snip it with a pair of scissors, it’s high in vitamins, major minerals and trace elements particularly iron. It’s also recommended for itchy skin, pulmonary diseases and constipation. It also contains beta carotene, calcium. Potassium, Folic acid and zinc – a powerhouse of goodness for free.
